French Cleats

What is a French cleat?

A French cleat is a simple but effective hanging system consisting of two interlocking brackets. One bracket is mounted to the wall, and the other is attached to the back of the item you want to hang.

How do I install a French cleat?

Installing a French cleat involves mounting the wall bracket securely to the wall with tapered head screws. Ensure that the screws are flush with the bracket and not protruding past the wood face. I build the other bracket directly into the piece. To hang, you will interlock the two brackets, creating a strong connection.

How strong are French cleats?

French cleats are incredibly strong when installed correctly. They provide a secure and sturdy connection, making them ideal for heavy items.

Can I adjust the item once it's hung?

With a traditional french cleat, you can adjust the horizontal placement of a piece by sliding it to the left or right on the wall bracket. With my custom circular french cleat, you can adjust the rotation of the piece. It does not slide side-to-side.
